WHAT'S IN A NAME? | HENRY'S SONG

What is in a name?

One’s name is a very important part of all our identities. Some of us give it up when we are married, others keep it, hyphenate it, and yet others adopt a new name that suits them more. Henry did not get to choose his name, it was given to him. Shortly after his adoption, he became aware that both of his Moms had initials after their names. Lots of his aunts and uncles did, too. Henry also wanted some initials after his name so he would be like the others he loved. He tried Henry Esq., but that just seemed too snooty for him. He tried Henry T for “tripod,” but he didn’t want to be named for his missing leg. He tried Sir Henry but felt much too regal. After many attempts at initials, in utter frustration he wrote to his friends saying “I am Just Me.” And then he had the light-bulb moment that stuck. Since that time he has become Henry jm for “just me.”

His Mom’s started a project in 1998 called the Real Women Project (realwomenproject.com). As part of that project they developed two music CDs. One of the most wonderful songs on the CD Time For Us Now is the song "Just Me." It fits for Henry; it fits for all of us, so he wanted to share how he got his name and why he likes it so much. To each of you, be Just You and celebrate that!
